Well-preserved colonial era buildings and heritage sites, such as the birthplace of one of the United States’ founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton, former plantation estates and vibrant gardens are dispersed across the island. Nevis’ Vibrant Cultural Festivals

One of the most anticipated events is Culturama, Nevis’ annual cultural festival. This summer, the festival will celebrate its 51st anniversary, marking over half a century of preserving and showcasing Nevisian heritage.
First established in 1974, festivities include traditional Nevisian music, dance, and art, reflecting the island’s rich culture and attracting global audiences.
This summer will also see the widely acclaimed annual Nevis Mango Festival, a celebration of the island’s most beloved fruit, reflecting Nevis’ commitment to culinary excellence.
With an impressive 44 varieties of mangoes, the festival perfectly captures what the island is all about. Vibrant positivity and a feeling of togetherness.
The festival is a platform for local farmers and chefs to highlight Nevis’ culinary diversity. The event features culinary competitions where every dish incorporates mangoes, showcasing the island’s creative fusion of tradition and modern culinary techniques. This celebration not only delights the taste buds but also fosters a sense of pride among Nevisians, reinforcing the island’s tight-knit community bonds.
Beyond its gastronomic allure, the festival also serves as an educational platform by offering traditional culinary masterclasses, art workshops, and mixology demonstrations that enrich both locals and visitors.
Another notable event is the Nevis Heritage Festival, which returned in May 2024 following a hiatus. Unlike the high-energy revelry of Culturama, this festival is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the island’s traditions, from storytelling and folk music to re-enactments of historical events. A highlight of the festival is its grand parade, where participants don traditional attire representing different eras of Nevisian history, creating a living tapestry of the island’s past.
Promoting these festivities is integral to the Nevis Island Administration’s agenda. Recently, the island’s Premier, Mark Brantley, celebrated the local Guyanese community, organising a series of Phagwah celebrations, also known as Holi, a vibrant celebration of Hindu culture. Nevis’s diversity not only promotes its authenticity but exhibits pride for the unique tapestry of people that call the island home.
